Colts win Sussex Colts A league | Our Colts have been confirmed champions of the Sussex Colts A merit league after a close run-in with Hove. Well done to all the players, Mick Orton, Duncan Hart and all helpers.
They are now lined up for the potential double when they meet Horsham in the u18 Cup final on May 3rd. The venue is still to be confirmed - if you are interested in attending check with Duncan for spectator place availability on the coach.

| Today saw the second of three encounters between the Worthing and Hove Colts this season.
The last game ended in a narrow victory to Worthing in the league, 8-6. Would today’s match be a last gasp victory? Oh yes it would be! A great rivalry between these sides is developing - this match a Cup semi. Spectators for matches such as these are truly blessed - either that or they should be charged for tickets! Will have to speak with the Committee!? more...

| .jpg) Photos courtesy of Nigel Lee Today’s match against Hove at Worthing was to be effectively the Colts league decider. Permutations of various outcomes had been discussed and considered by the coaching team but the home support and coaching staff realised that a win for Worthing with Hove not getting a losing point was required to guarantee a league win.
If Hove was to get that point today and could then go on and win their outstanding matches with bonus points they would tie with Worthing at the top of the league - winning then on an already better point difference.
The Worthing Colts have completed a hard league season having played consistently well – apart from that ‘glitch’ away at Chichester, that is. Nine hard games played – eight matches won, one bye and many miles travelled! more...

| Photos courtesy of Kev Burgess Today saw Worthing Colts travel to Uckfield RFC for their first match in the Colts knock out Cup having had a bye through the first round. For many of the team it was their first ever visit to Uckfield RFC.
Many of the team were glad of their ever-reliable ‘Tom-tom’ devices to navigate them through the Browns Lane estate to the clubhouse.
The pitch conditions were good but heavy. There was little breeze and there was broken cloud overhead.
Uckfield are currently in the lower half of the Sussex Colts ‘B’ League whilst the Worthing Colts are currently heading up the ‘A’ League. The worry for the Worthing coaching team was complacency. Would the Worthing players revert to ‘type’? Would they start slowly not expecting too much competition? Yes – they would!

| Today’s match saw Worthing travelling to Horsham to play this season’s Colts league fixture. Conditions had warmed and the pitch conditions were good with a chilly wind and partially blue skies overhead. There was a good crowd of about fifty mainly Horsham supporters but a good Worthing crowd had made the journey north.
Worthing support were looking to take maximum points from the fixture but realised that the apparently younger Worthing side would be tested. more...

| Last week the Worthing Colts successfully secured maximum points against Heathfield in wet and greasy ‘Fran Cotton’ conditions. Today was a week off from League or Cup competition as the Worthing Colts entertained Portsmouth Colts on Pitch 1 for the first ‘friendly’ since early November. Prior contact between the fixture secretaries suggested that Portsmouth were bringing a sub-strength and inexperienced team! I was certainly convinced by the end of the match that this really was not the case. County duties had depleted both squads. more... | |

| After the win against Haywards Heath two weeks ago the Worthing Colts are showing a real determination to contest the Colts league and take it to a tight finish.
Today’s match was a potential banana skin that had the potential to undo the season’s hard work. The weather had been very wet through the week and a match cancellation had been threatened. The match was moved to the second team pitch which although soggy in patches was firm on the side furthest from the clubhouse. There was a light drizzle and a slight chill to the air. more...

| Ryan Bull goes over to score - Photos courtesy of Kev Burgess This league fixture had been scheduled to have been played at Haywards Heath but due to frozen pitches in the north of the county the match was moved to the warmer climes of Worthing!?
There was a minute's silence before the kick off to remember Andy Hadden , a Haywards Heath squad member who tragically died this week. Andy was a member of the squad from the u7s. We are reminded at these times what really is important. Our thoughts are with Andy's family and friends.
Both sides realised the importance of this Colts league match with the league points between Worthing, Chichester and Haywards Heath being so close. A win today for Worthing would set up the rest of the league campaign, a loss would virtually end it. more...
